A plan shaped around your lips and features

Lip filler may be considered to add modest volume, improve border definition, support proportion or address volume change over time. The plan focuses on balanced, natural-looking change that works with your existing anatomy.

Dr Jamie assesses your lips at rest and in movement, their relationship with the surrounding face, and whether filler is proportionate to the change you want.

He also considers skin quality, lines around the mouth and previous treatment, explaining when another approach or a staged plan would better support your priorities while preserving balance with surrounding facial features.

Lip filler uses manufactured hyaluronic acid gel. Dr Jamie agrees the product, amount and placement for your anatomy, confirms consent, prepares the area and reassesses the lips throughout treatment before explaining aftercare and review timing.

  1. Step 1Confirm

Review the agreed plan, confirm consent and check that nothing affecting treatment has changed since your initial consultation.

  2. Step 2Prepare

Clean the treatment area, take clinical photographs and use the agreed comfort and hygiene measures before treatment begins.

  3. Step 3Treat

Place filler precisely using a needle, cannula or both while rechecking shape, proportion, balance and tissue response throughout.

  4. Step 4Review

Assess the result and explain expected settling, personalised aftercare, ongoing clinic support and the planned review timing clearly.

What to expect after lip filler

The lips can look fuller immediately, but this includes early swelling. Judge the result only after the area has settled and follow the individual guidance given at your appointment.

Early changes are assessed against the agreed plan, with the review point used to consider the settled shape rather than temporary swelling, tenderness or bruising.

Treatment dayExpect temporary early swelling

Swelling, tenderness, redness and injection marks are common. Bruising can develop, and lips may look uneven while early swelling settles.

First 24 to 72 hoursLet the treated area settle

Follow advice about lip contact, exercise, alcohol, heat, skincare and makeup. Contact the clinic if anything worsens or feels unexpected.

Around 1 to 2 weeksReview the settled shape

Swelling and bruising should improve. Assess the shape only when the tissue feels softer and early swelling has reduced sufficiently.

Following monthsReview whether maintenance is needed

Hyaluronic acid filler is temporary and duration varies. Dr Jamie can review your result and recommend an appropriate maintenance schedule.

Understand the benefits, risks and alternatives

Your consultation covers the expected benefits, likely recovery, relevant risks, alternatives and aftercare before you decide whether treatment is right for you.

What is usually temporary

Expected settling

Small injection marks, redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur while the area settles. Changes develop gradually, and early differences usually become easier to assess over time.

What may need review

Clinic support

If your recovery feels different from what was discussed, or you are concerned at any point, contact the clinic. Dr Jamie will assess what is happening and explain what to do next.

Clear and considered

An informed decision

Before treatment, Dr Jamie explains the expected recovery, relevant risks, alternatives and aftercare, with time for you to ask questions before deciding whether to proceed.
